Hooking is the process of attempting to win the ball when a scrum is taking place. Two primary hooking techniques are available: striking and rolling. The striking technique involves striking the ball with your foot as it’s being fed into the scrum. Timing is crucial in executing this technique. Conversely, the rolling technique involves rolling the ball back towards your team’s side of the scrum using your feet and then pushing it towards your team.

3. Rugby Kicking Techniques

Kicking is also an essential skill in rugby, and it comprises two basic types of techniques: the punt kick and the drop kick. The punt kick is used to kick the ball as far down the field as possible, while the drop kick involves kicking the ball over the crossbar for a goal.
